Having lived her whole life so far next to the Grand Union canal it was an intriguing day today. They drained two of the locks and the stretch of canal in between near us to repair the lock gates. At the same time they gave people a chance to climb down and walk along the bottom of the canal. So it was on with the wellies and off we went. The water was being held back by some boards although not very successfully so there was also a pretty serious looking pump pumping the water back that was leaking through. The one thing that surprised me was how shallow the canal is but then again it was dug out by hand which must have been a real effort!
